Colombian oil reserves will grow by 0.74% between 2024 and 2024, but gas stocks will decrease

The National Hydrocarbons Agency, the regulator of Colombia, said that the country's oil reserves would be enough to cover 7.2 years' worth of consumption by the end of 2024.

After closing 2023 with 2.020 billion barrels, the country's crude oil reserves increased by 0.74 percent in 2024, to 2.035 billion. This is equivalent to 7.1 months of supply.

The ANH released a statement that stated the reserves of gas, which are a crucial part of the energy transition of the country, fell by 13%, to 2,064 giga cubic feet. This is the equivalent of 5.9 years' consumption compared to the 6.1 years at the end 2023.

These figures represent proven reserves, also known as 1P in the industry.

In 2024, crude oil production averaged 772,621 barges per day, down from 777,151 the previous year.

Colombia's largest exports are oil and gas, and the highest revenue generators come from coal.

The government of President Gustavo Petro, a leftist party, has tried to push the country toward renewable energy but with little success due to project delays and legal issues. (Reporting and writing by Nelson Bocanegra, Julia Symmes Cobb, Editing by Sharon Singleton).
