Almost 70% of Gaza war dead ladies and children, UN rights workplace states

The U.N. Person Rights Office said on Friday almost 70% of the deaths it has validated in the Gaza war were females and kids, and condemned what it called an organized offense of the basic principles of worldwide humanitarian law.

The U.N. count covers the first seven months of the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip that began more than a. year earlier.

The 8,119 victims confirmed by the U.N. Rights Office in that. seven-month period is significantly lower than the toll of over. 43,000 supplied by Palestinian health authorities for the full. 13 months of conflict.

However the U.N. breakdown of the victims' age and gender backs. the Palestinian assertion that ladies and kids represent a. large portion of those eliminated in the war.

This finding indicates a methodical violation of the. basic concepts of international humanitarian law,. consisting of difference and proportionality, the U.N. rights. office said in a statement accompanying the 32-page report.

It is vital that there is due considering regard to. the allegations of major infractions of global law. through credible and objective judicial bodies and that, in the. meantime, all appropriate info and proof are collected. and preserved, United Nations High Commissioner for Person. Rights Volker Turk said.

Israel did not instantly talk about the report's findings.

Israel's military, which started its offensive in reaction to. the Oct. 7, 2023 attack in which Hamas fighters eliminated about. 1,200 people in southern Israel and seized more than 250. hostages, states it takes care to prevent harming civilians in Gaza.

It has said approximately one civilian has been killed for. every fighter, a ratio it blames on Hamas, stating the. Palestinian militant group uses civilian centers. Hamas has. denied using civilians and civilian infrastructure, including. medical facilities, as human guards.

YOUNGEST VICTIM AGED ONE DAY

The youngest victim whose death was validated by U.N. screens was a one-day-old boy, and the oldest was a 97-year-old. woman, the report stated.

Overall, kids represented 44% of the victims, with. children aged five-nine representing the single most significant age. classification, followed by those aged 10-14, and then those aged up. to and consisting of 4.

This broadly shows the enclave's demographics, which the. report stated reflected an obvious failure to take safety measures to. avoid civilian losses.

It showed that in 88% of cases, 5 or more individuals were. eliminated in the very same attack, pointing to the Israeli military's. usage of weapons with an impact across a large area, although it. stated some deaths may have been the result of errant. projectiles from Palestinian armed groups.
