Eni states judgment on Greenpeace lawsuit in Italy deals with hold-up

A choice on a lawsuit brought by Greenpeace and ReCommon against Italy's Eni for adding to climate modification with its fossil fuel companies will be postponed beyond September, the energy group said on Thursday.

The post ponement follows a request from the 2 ecological groups for a jurisdictional evaluation of the Italian case, Eni said.

The presiding judge had actually set a hearing date for a decision on Sept. 14, the state-controlled energy group added. The case, launched in 2015 and a first of its kind in Italy, has been heard by a court in Rome.

Greenpeace and ReCommon's demand dangers causing a prolonged suspension of the decision, that otherwise would have been expected shortly, Eni said in a statement.

Greenpeace Italy and ReCommon had no instant comment but stated they would set out their next legal steps on Friday throughout an online press conference.
