Finnish paperboard manufacturer Metsa likely to momentarily shut mill due to strike

Finnish paperboard manufacturer Metsa Board said on Monday it anticipates to momentarily shut down among its mills later on today due to a. twoweek political strike impacting Finland's harbours and. railway system.

Industrial, logistics and electrical workers started a. two-week strike on Monday, targeting exports, imports and cargo. transport.

The strike is the latest in a series of trade union actions. opposing labour market reforms and proposed cuts to the social. well-being system by Finland's right-wing government.

A Metsa representative said its mill in Joutseno in southern. Finland would require to be briefly idled as an outcome of the. strike due to raw-material scarcities.

The representative did not have a price quote of how the strike. would impact Metsa's other mills in Finland.

Obviously the target is to keep the mills functional. throughout the strike as much as possible, depending on the. length of the strike, the spokesperson said.

Production at the closed mill is expected to ramp up after. the strike ends and staff members will do maintenance operate in the. meantime, the spokesperson added.

Metsa does not anticipate its Swedish mills to be impacted by. the strike.

Numerous companies are preparing for an impact from the strike. action. Previously on Monday, Swedish metals maker Boliden. stated it expected a 300 million-crown ($ 29.35 million) struck to. first-quarter revenue, while Finnish forestry company UPM plans on. briefly closing a paper mill.
