He said that the government had approved a budget of EUR12 million ($13.91m) to help towns relocate residents whose homes were destroyed. Lecornu announced the news in Merignac near Le Porge in southwest France, where hundreds homes were destroyed in a massive fire last month. Lecornu was booed by dozens in Le Porge as he visited that area early on Monday morning. Residents criticised the response of the government and accused authorities of prioritising wealthy areas.

Last month, a massive wildfire in southwest France, with an 'amplitude that hasn't been seen for decades, destroyed 50,000 hectares and burned down a few hundred houses. It also forced the evacuation of up to 220,000 people.
