Kharkiv: 33 injured in Russian attacks in the east Ukraine

Regional officials reported that two people were killed and at least 33 wounded in a Russian attack on eastern Ukraine Thursday. Russian glide bombs were used to strike a residential area in Kharkiv in the northeastern part of the city.

Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office in Eastern Ukraine reported that the two fatalities occurred in the city Kostiantynivka where 12 other people were also injured.

Oleh Syniehubov, the regional governor of Kharkiv region, said that a 10-year old child and an infant aged one month were injured when two glide bombs, air-launched weapons with satellite navigation and wings to increase their precision and range.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy, President of X, wrote: "These are completely senseless attacks with no military purpose at all."

A thick black smoke rose above Kharkiv's northern district, where an apartment block and a local business were damaged. Residents fled in shock, some holding children as flames consumed parked cars.

Yevhen Hanushchak said, "I looked and everything was broken," holding a crate outside an apartment building that had been damaged. "Tons and tons of smoke. People running, screaming, and grabbing their belongings."

Since talks to secure a ceasefire for its almost 3-1/2-year-old war in Ukraine, which stalled in this year, Russia has increased airstrikes against Ukrainian towns and cities.

Glide bombs are particularly destructive in areas near the battlefield. Regional prosecutors stated that the attack on Thursday was launched from a distance of nearly 100 km (62miles). (Additional reporting by Yuliia Dyesa, Writing by Dan Peleschuk and Editing by Timothy Heritage).
