Kuok Group to invest EUR5.3 billion in data centers in Italy

Adolfo Urso, the Industry Minister in Italy, said that Singapore's Kuok Group has assessed a?potential investment plan?of up to EUR5.3 billion towards a data center hub in northern Italy.

Urso hosted in Rome a meeting with a delegation of K2 Strategic, a digital infrastructure division?of Kuok Group. The company then presented?a plan for building a hyperscale campus data centre in the southern outskirts?of Milan.

According to Urso’s Ministry, the total investment for?development?and long term operation of a 300 megawatt project could reach EUR5.3 billion.

Massimo Sertori, regional councilor for Milan's Lombardy, said this month that the region is expecting a boom in?demand?for data centres?in Italy. The investment estimates are around EUR22 billion?over the next five years.

Urso, and the Lombardy president Attilio?Fontana, established a joint?working?group earlier this month to streamline permitting processes and handle applications for projects that seek designation as being of?national?strategic?interest.
