Poland's PGE says Turow power complex will run as long as required

Poland's leading utility PGE stated on Monday it will take all steps essential to guarantee its Turow lignite mine and power plant near the Czech border can operate for as long as needed.

We will correct previous mistakes and take all essential actions to preserve the normal operation of the Turow mine and power plant with the utmost attention to eco-friendly problems and the safety of the entire region, for as long as needed, PGE CEO Dariusz Marzec stated in a statement.

A regional court reversed a 2022 ecological permit for Turow on March 13, but allowed the open-pit mine to continue operations for now.

Ecological groups have actually long slammed the ecological impact of the mine that feeds the surrounding power plant and submitted suits versus a license that allows it to run till 2044.

PGE said it is now awaiting a written validation of the local court's judgment and based on this will take legal steps to safeguard the mine and power complex.

I am encouraged that the case will be fixed favorably, Marzec stated.
