Canada's Imperial Oil minimizes non-essential staff at Kearl as wildfires spread

Canada's Imperial Oil is reducing unnecessary staff at the Kearl oil sands site as a. precaution versus the continuous wildfires in the country, the. business said on Wednesday.

There are 430 wildfires in British Columbia with another 172. in Alberta consisting of those near the crucial oil sands hub of Fort. McMurray in northern Alberta.

Imperial Oil stated there was no direct impact on its. operations at the minute which it continues to monitor the. situation closely.

About two-thirds of Canada's 5 million barrels daily of. production originates from the oil sands area.

The wildfire threat level is designated as extreme throughout. the Fort McMurray forest location and a fire restriction is in result for. the whole area, based on an Alberta federal government release on. Tuesday.
