US Antimony wants to increase antimony smelting facility

United States Antimony Corp. , the only smelter of antimony in North America, stated on Tuesday it was wanting to increase its supply of the small metal, which would then enable it to increase its facility.

Antimony, a strategic small metal utilized in flame-retardants, batteries and munitions, was added to China's export restriction list in August, as it aimed to support the material in the name of national security.

Last year, China represented 48% of international mined output of antimony, according to the U.S. Geological Study (USGS).

Gary Evans, the co-chief executive officer of United States Antimony, said that its smelting facility at Thompson Falls was just performing at 50% of its capability due to an absence of supply.
