Texas sues over Biden legalization program for immigrants married to United States people

Texas and a union of Republicanled states on Friday sued President Joe Biden's. administration over a brand-new program that offers a course to. citizenship for immigrants who went into the U.S. illegally and. are now wed to U.S. residents.

The suit argues the program, which began accepting. applications on Monday, oversteps the administration's authority. to offer relief to those without legal status and prevents. the intent of U.S. migration laws.

The initiative, called Keeping Households Together, provides a. path to citizenship to an estimated 500,000 immigrant partners. who went into the U.S. illegally and have at least ten years of. residence. Without this alternative, lots of would require to leave the. U.S. for several years before having the ability to return legally.

Republicans have made illegal immigration a central focus of. the Nov. 5 governmental election where previous President Donald. Trump, a Republican politician, will take on versus the Democratic. candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris.

America First Legal, an organization led by Trump advisor. Stephen Miller, worked as co-counsel in the suit along with. Texas and 15 other states with Republican chief law officers.

Miller, a driving force behind Trump's limiting policies. during his 2017-2021 presidency, called the Biden program. brazenly illegal in a declaration.

Keeping Households Together also enables some 50,000 children. under age 21 with a U.S.-citizen parent to obtain short-term. parole status that develops a path to citizenship.

White House spokesperson Angelo Fernandez Hernandez said the. Texas lawsuit intended to different households and breaks our. nation's worths.

Texas has repeatedly clashed with the Biden administration. in court over immigration and border issues.

A federal appeals court in July said Texas could keep a. large floating barrier in the Rio Grande River meant to obstruct. migrants illegally crossing from Mexico.
