White Top to invest 250 mln euros in Spanish green methanol plant

Infrastructure financial investment firm White Top Capital will invest 250 million euros ($ 267. million) in a green hydrogen and methanol plant in Spain, a. person familiar with the matter told .

The investment aims to take advantage of demand from carriers for. cleaner fuels to lower their emissions amidst minimal products.

The plant will remain in the port area of Gijon, in the northern. region of Asturias, and will utilize green hydrogen and carbon. dioxide captured from neighboring markets to produce e-methanol.

E-methanol is made using hydrogen produced with eco-friendly. energy instead of nonrenewable fuel sources - so-called green hydrogen - and. caught co2.

The financial investment will be made through White Summit's green. hydrogen subsidiary HyFive and is supported by European Union. funds, the person said.

Beginning with 2027, the plant will have 50 megawatts (MW) of. electrolysis capacity to make green hydrogen, feeding the. production of 100,000 metric lots of green methanol every year. The company has plans to then double its electrolysis capacity to. 100 MW.

The job is anticipated to be unveiled on Tuesday.

Green methanol is viewed as an essential factor in. decarbonising markets that are tough to energize, such as. maritime transport.

With offices in areas including Switzerland, Spain and. Britain, White Top concentrates on investments connected to the green. transition. Its portfolio includes Spanish electrical automobile. charger firm Zunder and Portuguese biomethane manufacturer Ferbgas. Renewable.

Previously this year, it secured a 150 million euro commitment. from the European Mutual Fund for an infrastructure fund. concentrated on decarbonisation.
