Brazilian power generator EMAE's CEO could be new head of ONS -sources.

Brazilian power generator EMAE's CEO Marcio Rea could become the chief of the National Electrical Power System Operator (ONS), three sources with understanding of the matter told on Wednesday.

An invite to Rea was made by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, which has the authority to appoint the director-general of the ONS.

The ministry stated it did not have any information about the matter, however added that a chief for ONS will be selected quickly.

EMAE did not discuss the matter and ONS said it was alerted yet about any indications.

The federal government's election is generally accepted by the assembly of the electrical power sector body, according to the sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Rea has been president of Sao Paulo-based EMAE given that 2020.

Last week, a mutual fund led by Brazilian magnate Nelson Tanure won the privatization auction for EMAE, outbidding French energy giant EDF to scoop up a managing stake presently held by the state of Sao Paulo.

The ONS board meeting and assembly, which might confirm Rea as the organisation's brand-new director-general, are arranged for Thursday.

The mandate of the ONS's current director-general, Luiz Carlos Ciocchi, selected by the previous President Jair Bolsonaro's federal government, expires next May, as does that of 2 other directors of the organisation.
