Global data center industry to release 2.5 billion tons of CO2 through 2030, Morgan Stanley says

A boom in information centers is expected to produce about 2.5 billion metric lots of carbon dioxideequivalent emissions internationally through the end of the decade, and speed up investments in decarbonization efforts, according to Morgan Stanley research study.

Hyperscalers, which include Google, Microsoft , Meta and Amazon, are driving the swift expansion of electricity-guzzling data centers to broaden their expert system and cloud computing innovations. At the very same time, the business are keeping promises to slash global warming emissions from their centers by 2030.

This creates a large market for decarbonization options, according to Morgan Stanley's research study report on Monday, which stated the greenhouse gas emissions by the worldwide data center industry will total up to about 40% of what the entire U.S. emits in a year.

The build-out of the huge computer warehouses will increase investments in clean power development; energy efficient devices and so-called green structure products, Morgan Stanley said. Carbon capture, usage, and sequestration
