UK police officer on trial for murder of Black guy says he never meant to kill

A British police officer charged with the murder of a Black man in London 2 years ago on Tuesday said he did not intend to eliminate when he fired the fatal shot.

Chris Kaba, who was unarmed, passed away from a single gunshot to the head after his cars and truck, which had been linked to a reported shooting the previous night, was dropped in the Streatham location of south London on Sept. 5 2022.

Kaba tried to repel while boxed in by police vehicles when guns officer Martyn Blake shot him through the car windscreen, district attorneys said at the start of the trial.

District attorney Tom Little informed jurors at London's Old Bailey court earlier this month that Blake's choice to shoot Kaba was not fairly warranted or understandable.

Blake, 40, rejects murder and stated on Monday he believed there was an impending danger to his colleagues if he had actually not shot Kaba.

Under cross-examination by Little on Tuesday, Blake said he meant to cripple Kaba however not kill him.
