Drones strike across Sudanese capital, RSF claims responsibility

Residents and paramilitary groups claim that drones used by the Rapid Support Forces on Tuesday morning targeted important installations in Khartoum, the state controlled by the Sudanese Army, including the capital. This was the first attack of this kind in several months.

The Tasis Coalition, a coalition of armed and political groups led by RSF, claimed responsibility for the attack. It said that the attacks were directed at military and logistics targets.

Residents of Khartoum said that drones attacked the main oil refinery in the country, power stations in Bahri, Omdurman and a fuel depot located in southern Khartoum as well as a military base.

After being forced out of the central and eastern Sudan, the RSF, who has been fighting a civil war for two-and-a half years, launched a series drone attacks earlier this year on power plants and other installations throughout the country. The RSF has been battling the army mainly on the ground in the Darfur region and Kordofan over the summer. However, in recent days, the army has increased airstrikes.

Tasis stated that the attack on Tuesday was "in response" to criminal attacks against hospitals and civil facilities in Darfur, and Kordofan. Last month, the coalition installed a parallel administration.

Sudan's civil conflict has caused the largest humanitarian crisis in history and attracted several foreign powers. However, there have been few progresses in mediation.
