Brazil's Eneva eyes $711 million investment to expand power plant

Brazilian energy company Eneva expects to invest some 4 billion reais ($ 711.33 million) to broaden the capacity of its Celse thermoelectric power pant if it wins an approaching federal government auction, Chief Marketing Officer Marcelo Lopes stated.

The company will participate in the so-called power reserve auction, which offers extra capacity for peak-demand hours, and would work to broaden Celse's capacity to 2.8 gigawatts (GW). from the current 1.6 GW if it wins it, according to Lopes.

We tend to be rather competitive in this auction, the. executive informed in an interview on Tuesday, mentioning. undefined internal budget price quotes.

The auction was initially scheduled to take place in August,. but will likely be delayed as the government still requires to. release its last rules and an updated schedule.

Celse is powered by gas provided by Eneva's. Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) situated in the. northeastern state of Sergipe.

It currently uses some 6 million cubic meters of natural. gas per day, a volume that would be increased to 7 million cubic. meters if Eneva wins the power reserve auction, Lopes stated.
