NRG Energy second-quarter profit more than doubles on lower expenses, strong need

Utility company NRG Energy posted a near 148% jump in secondquarter revenue on Thursday, helped by lower costs and resistant demand for power during peak summer season months.

NRG also said it entered into an agreement to offer its Airton HVAC service for $500 million. The company did not divulge details of the deal, which is expected to close by the end of the year.
