Catherine O'Hara is dead at age 71. She was the star of "Schitt's Creek" and "Home Alone."

Catherine O'Hara was a Canadian comic actor who played a variety of characters, from the deliriously dramatic Moira Rose to the frantic mom in "Home Alone." She died at the age of 71. Her 'co-star' Macaulay Culkin led the tributes.

The office of her manager Marc Gurvitz confirmed O'Hara's death. She won the 2020 Emmy Award for best comedy actress and helped propel "Schitt's Creek", to dominate the TV award season at the 2021 Golden Globes.

According to a BBC report citing Creative Artists Agency's statement, she died at her Los Angeles home on Friday after a short illness.

O'Hara played Kate McCallister in "Home Alone" and Delia deetz in "Beetlejuice." Culkin hailed O'Hara on Instagram.

"Mama. I thought we still had some time. I wanted more. I wanted to be seated next to you. You were heard. I wanted to say so much more. I love you. Culkin wrote, "I'll be back later," alongside pictures of the couple.

Carney wrote: "I mourn with Canadians and O'Hara fans around the world."

On X, his predecessor, Justin Trudeau (former Prime Minister), called her "a loved Canadian icon with a unique gift for comedy and a heart" and said: "She made everyone laugh, across generations." His post included a picture of both of them.

O'Hara, born in Toronto on March 4, 54, was the sixth child of seven. She began her career as an actress in 1974, when she joined the Toronto improv theatre troupe "The Second City".

Two years later, the group created the sketch comedy TV show "SCTV", which featured O'Hara’s performances often.

She has provided her voice for a number of animated projects including Sally, Pinktail and Brook Ripple from "Elemental", as well as multiple voices including Mrs. Frankenstein in "Frankenweenie".

O'Hara has also appeared in Seth Rogen's Hollywood satire series "The Studio", set in 2025, as Patty Leigh. She plays the fired director of a Hollywood studio. She has also played dramatic roles in films such as "Hope" from 1997.
