Near doubling German wind supply weighs on spot cost

The German area power rate dropped in Monday trading as wind supply was seen almost doubling on Tuesday but must fall throughout the week, while French nuclear accessibility fell.

German baseload power for Tuesday was at 62.5 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) at 0934 GMT, down 26.5% from the price paid Friday for Monday shipment.

The comparable French contract was at 27 euros/MWh. The contract for Monday was untraded on Friday.

German wind power output was expected to leap by 11.1 gigawatts (GW) on Tuesday to 23.6 GW while French output was expected to fall 3.2 GW to 2.3 GW, LSEG data showed.

LSEG analysis revealed that wind power supply in Germany is expected to fall back to about 14 GW on Wednesday and then drop to around 9 GW on Thursday and Friday.

German solar energy supply was also forecast to rise, getting 1.3 GW to 12.4 GW, the information revealed.
