Olympics-Freestyle-Halfpipe, aerials events postponed due to heavy snow

Heavy snowfall forced schedule changes, and the 'Winter Olympics' freestyle skiing events of the halfpipe and aerials were rescheduled for Thursday in Livigno. Meanwhile, both women & men had to train at the same time for the 'biathlon mass-start.

The organisers are confident that the weather will not cause any major disruptions, as the Games end on Sunday. The men's final and qualifiers for aerials were moved to Friday at 0930 GMT. Meanwhile, the men's qualification runs in halfpipe were moved an hour later.

The organisers confirmed that the women's semi-pipe qualifiers will begin at 1830 GMT, as soon as the snow stopped falling in Livigno. As the Olympics close for freestyle ski, the final will be held on Saturday evening. The organizers of the Anterselva Biathlon Competition had to hold a session to train both men and women for the mass-start as the region was expected to be hit by heavy snowfall later in the day.

As the Nordic combined sprint began, Tesero was covered in thick snow. The mountains of Val di Fiemme were no longer visible.

Mark Adams, spokesperson for the International Olympic Committee, said at a recent press conference that snow is an occupational risk in winter sports. "They're used to dealing with delays, changes, and bad weather... We, and the federations, are used to this." "It is something that we must work with, sadly," he said.

The Olympics in Livigno have been impacted by bad weather before. Livigno is a remote Alpine town near the Swiss border, also known as Little Tibet.

Winter Olympics organizers often move competitions based on the weather. The organisers delayed the start of the men's and women's freestyle aerials on Tuesday.

The closing ceremony of Milano Cortina will be held in Verona, Italy on Sunday at 19:00 GMT. (Additional reporting Liz Hampton in Tesero, Phil O'Connor in Anterselva. Written by Karolos Grhmann, edited by Peter Rutherford & Ken Ferrer.
