At least 35 people killed in a raid on a remote village in central Nigeria by bandits

A state legislator said that bandits killed 35 people as they'stormed' through a remote village located in the central Nigerian state of Kwara, setting buildings and shops on fire late Tuesday.

The district that borders Niger State, an area increasingly targeted by armed gangs, was the scene of a 'deadliest attack this year.

Saidu Baba Ahmed, a phone caller, said that villagers fled into the surrounding?bushland when the gunmen attacked Woro.

He said that several people were still unaccounted for on Wednesday morning.

In recent years, banditry and armed attacks against rural communities have risen in the northwest and north-central parts of?Nigeria as gangs raided villages and kidnapped residents and looted livestock.
